So, with that in mind, let’s address the elephant in the room.

What Is An Entrepreneur?

According to the dictionary, an entrepreneur is someone who starts a business thus taking on financial risks in the hope of profit. Simply put, an entrepreneur is a person who starts a business and becomes a one-man show to ensure its success and growth, while investing a lot if not all your personal finances with the hope to gain it back in profit.  Before starting the business, there are a few things that need to be in place to ensure this.  This means that before starting your business, you will need to do some homework.  You will need to take the time to do research about the business you are planning to start, but even before that, you will need to take a good look at yourself and decide whether you have the necessary skills and fortitude to be an entrepreneur.  Having the skills speaks to how you handle money, how you handle people, etc. Having fortitude speaks to how you handle rejection, whether you are able to push through when things get tough, etc.

There is a specific mindset that an entrepreneur needs, and unfortunately, not many take the time to consider these things.  Often what happens is that one gets an idea about a business because you have seen someone else doing it, and you are convinced that you can do what they are doing as well.  The danger here is that you often only see the nice, beautiful side of having a business.  You only see that the person is making money, but what you don’t see, are the challenges this person faces on a daily basis.  You don’t see how hard he has worked to get to where he is.  You don’t know about the sleepless nights he endured when it looked like the business was falling apart.  You don’t see the times he almost gave up because it looked like nothing was happening.  You don’t see the frustration he has often had to deal with when he could not make target and put food on his family’s table.

Often on the outside, everything looks good and easy, but the reality is another story.  So before you start your business, you need to ask yourself a few questions that will give you some insight into what being an entrepreneur means, and more importantly, whether this is something you are ready for.  This information may be completely new to you, so we will stop right here and give you time to digest the information we have shared.
